Spooky stoner cult classic, Idle Hands (1999)

Idle Hands (1999) is a spooky cult classic. There are a lot of stoners in this movie and maybe even more pumpkins. This (dead) buddy comedy has a killer cast. Devon Sawa plays a perma-high teenager along with costars Seth Green (who kills it in this movie) and Elden Henson (who you are going to wish you never saw eat a burrito). Then we have a song-writing and scooter-driving Jessica Alba (there is a lot to unpack about her character), Vivica A. Fox (I wish I knew how she felt about this movie), and … Jack Noseworthy (with unbelievably fake tattoos).

Both the dog and cat in this movie are amazing actors too. And the hand! Well, same hand that played Thing in the Addams Family (1991). That hand is fantastic and belongs to magician, Christopher Hart. Also important to note, Devon Sawa really squirted dish soap into his mouth for this role.

Please watch Idle Hands and then may we please take a moment to discuss the terrifying burger joint. Raw meat by the cash? Get the **** outta here! Equally disgusting is some of the not-at-all p.c. language. Quite a few lines from this movie would never be written into a script nowadays. Like, queer… is a compliment, commooooon.

Two out of five stars. A must-watch for anyone who got high in the 1990s and still digs weed and Halloween. Especially together.

“As usual, marijuana saves an otherwise disastrous day.”
