Shut your blinds and kick-back with spooky Tom Hanks in, The ‘Burbs (1989)

The ‘Burbs is a classic tale of a man, who should be enjoying his summer vacation but is instead snooping his new spooky neighbours. This cult hit pairs well with a summer day that you should be outside enjoying … and also discussions about xenophobia.

What a cast. Tom Hanks, Carrie Fisher, Bruce Dern, Corey Feldman and Darla, the dog actor — who also played Precious, in The Silence of the Lambs (1991).

The score by Jerry Goldsmith (Alien, Poltergeist) and the Universal Studios backlot set make The ‘Burbs perfectly hygge. This fun and not-scary but kinda dark and ominous summer movie was directed by Joe Dante (yes, ol’ Joe who directed Gremlins).

Getting to watch a 31-years-young Tom Hanks eating a sardine, is reason enough to press play on this one. Also, the scene where he is completely exasperated yelling “I’m only trying to take a nap! I’m only laying here with my eyes closed trying to get some goddamn sleep!”

Enjoy! 🙂
